Situated in the heart of Edinburgh in the city’s George Street, the RSE Scotland Foundation was established in 1996 and is a charitable body connected to The Royal Society of Edinburgh. The Foundation’s purpose is to advance the education of the public in Scotland in science, engineering and technology; and as such event organisers are therefore welcome to hold events in the RSE that align with this purpose. The Foundation also permits limited use of its facilities for events which align with the Society's broader charitable purpose, which is the "advancement of learning and useful knowledge".

The venue is steeped in history and boasts a variety of function rooms, including the following:

• The Wolfson Lecture Theatre is a modern and contemporary fully air-conditioned conference facility, fully equipped to meet all your conferencing needs for up to 145 delegates.
• Wellcome East is an elegant roon, which is bright and spacious- ideal for up to 60 for a conference or 40 for a seated lunch or dinner. Wellcome East links to Wellcome West.
• Wellcome West provides guests with a traditional atmosphere and is ideal for receptions for up to 150, dinners for up to 100 guests, and theatre style conferences for up to 80 delegates.
• The RSE also boasts smaller rooms, all unique and historic in their appearance; the Kelvin Room, the Swann Room, the Lower Gallery and the James Clerk Maxwell Room.
