The Scottish Storytelling Centre is the world’s first purpose-built centre for storytelling, right on the Royal Mile, where it forms a bustling arts venue that celebrates the nation’s cultural heritage in the heart of the capital.
Winner of the Sunday Herald Culture Award 2018 for ‘Best Performing Arts Venue’, it includes the famous Netherbow Theatre, Storytelling Court and the historic John Knox House, offering lots of unique spaces to host its versatile events programme of live storytelling, traditional arts, literature, theatre, kid’s events and visual art, throughout the year. The Centre regularly welcomes private hires to all available spaces, including parties, conferences, workshops, arts events, wine tastings and even small weddings.
The 99-seat theatre, which is fitted with tiered seating, high specification lighting, projection and a superb sound system, is ideal for small-scale theatre, literary events, presentations, seminars and conferences.
The Centre is also the hub for the Scottish International Storytelling Festival, one of the 11 Edinburgh Festivals internationally recognised as a leader in its field.
With on-site catering, excellent customer service and a welcoming approach to collaborations, the Scottish Storytelling Centre is the perfect place for young and old – its ethos nicely summed up by the old Scottish proverb:
“The story is told eye to eye, mind to mind and heart to heart”.
